Does it really offend most gays when people use the word gay to describe things?

like when someone says, "that shirt is so gay". Wanda Sykes has that tv commercial out trying to persuade people to stop using the word gay. To me gay is just used a an adjective to describe something.Words have more than 1 meaning. gay also means happy. Do most gays actually take offense to this or did a small group of people just blow this out of proportion
