How do i get my itouch to work?

i went to the beach and my niece put wet seashells in my purse and it got on my ipod itouch and now it wont work obviously and when i connected it to the laptop with the cord it wouldnt even show that it was connected to the itunes account and the apple is the only thing thatll pop up on the itouch so what do i do?
