Do all the modern HO couplers work magnetically? Or is it only a specific kind of Kadee coupler?

I have several different sets that have the couplers that look like prototypical knuckles, but I don't know if they're all meant to uncouple over a magnet....and can I use a standard magnet, or does it have to be electrically charged?
