What does this poem mean?

It's about the spirit and fortitude of black Americans. Specifically, (I think) black women. It's about the ability to weather pain and ridicule and strife, but always rise above it. It's about strength and integrity and dignity in face of slander and oppression. It's by and about a black woman who is proud and knows her own value and beauty.
